A bill awaiting Gov. Kathy Hochul’s signature would allow schools to cancel class if the classroom gets too hot.
According to the legislation, if the room temperature hits 82 degrees, schools will be required to take action – like turning on the fans or lowering the blinds to cool off. If the indoor temperature reaches 88 degrees, students and staff would not be allowed to occupy the building.
If the governor signs, this new law will take effect on September 1, 2025.
